Arkas Sports has signed a contract with Glenn Hoag, who has been directing the Canadian national team since 2006. The coach came to Izmir on Saturday, August 7, where he toured the facilities in Örnekköy and met with the players. Hoag emphasized that he is a coach who works very systematically and who believes in methodology. He said, “I want to implement a different methodology here.”
Glenn Hoag spoke at the signing ceremony at Arkas Holding, where he said that he was very happy to be in Izmir and that he had arrived at a very professionally organized club.
When asked what he thought about the Turkish league, Hoag said, “We played against Turkish teams in the past. Players from the Canadian national team have played in Turkey before, and I learned some things from them. The Turkish national team recently succeeded in beating a world giant like Italy 3-0 in the European championship. I hear that the club’s teams have made very good transfers. This shows that Turkish volleyball is improving. So, I believe that we will put up a good fight this next season.”

Hoag noted that Arkas Sports Club has a philosophy of investing in young people and added, “I think this philosophy is very important, because I believe that it is important to invest in young people. I am very happy to see this attitude at Arkas.”
Glenn Hoag’s Career
Born in Canada in 1958, Glenn Hoag played on the Canadian national team from 1981 to 1986. He was on the most successful team in Canadian history, which placed 4th in the 1984 Olympics.
In 2001, he coached the European team Paris Volley to a Triple Crown victory, winning the French Cup, the French Championship and the European Champions Cup. One of the players on that team was Paul Duerden, an outside hitter who has played for Arkas Sports for many years.
Hoag served as the assistant coach on the French national team. In 2003, he coached Université de Sherbrooke in Quebec, Canada. In 2006, he was chosen to direct the Canadian national team.
From 1999 to 2003, he accomplished 157 wins with only 19 losses in games that he coached.

From 2008 to 2010, he coached the Slovenian team ACH Volley Bled. He is known for training up young players, for his superb coaching knowledge and for understanding the player’s perspective. Because of this, he led the very young group of players on ACH Volley to the final four of the 2010 Champions League.
Glenn Hoag will continue to coach the Canadian National Team during the summers.
