Arkas Sports finished this season as the overall champion in the Turkish Men's Volleyball 1st League, claiming the championship for the second time in a row after a challenging season. With 33 wins out of 36 matches played during the season and in the four championship matches, Arkas Sports also set a record that will be hard to break.
Arkas Sports won the championship at the close of the 2006 - 2007 season in the Turkish Men's Volleyball 1st league by defeating Fenerbahçe in the final match held in Adana. Fenerbahçe claimed an early lead in the match, but Arkas Sports evened the score and then won the third game, declaring themselves champions before the match was completed. Arkas exulted in their victory as walked away from the match with a score of 3-1.
New records
Arkas Sports displayed incredible performance by winning 33 out of 36 matches during the season and in the championship finals. The club also won 25 matches in a row, claiming a record that will go down in volleyball history as one that will be hard to break. Arkas Sports' consistent play throughout the season was primarily due to the discipline and hard work which kept the team in top form.
Lucien Arkas, President of Arkas Sports Club, said, "We claimed the 2nd championship for Izmir by maintaining our discipline, working very hard and playing with all our heart. We have won the hearts of the people of Izmir by reviving their love for volleyball. We are thrilled not only by the championship, but because people in Izmir have cheered us on and given us their heartfelt support. We dedicate this championship to everyone who lives in Izmir."
Arkas Sports also represents Turkey in Europe and advanced as far as the quarter finals in the Europe Top Teams Cup at the beginning of this year. Akas Sports has now set a new goal of winning a victory in Europe and claiming the cup for Turkey.
